pulling inward, being confined

I also have some documentaries.

[1955] Rebel Without A Cause

"After moving to a new town, troublemaking teen Jim Stark is supposed to have a clean slate, although being the new kid in town brings its own problems. While searching for some stability, Stark forms a bond with a disturbed classmate, Plato, and falls for local girl Judy. However, Judy is the girlfriend of neighborhood tough, Buzz. When Buzz violently confronts Jim and challenges him to a drag race, the new kid's real troubles begin."

[1993] Falling Down

A tale of urban reality. "An ordinary man frustrated with the various flaws he sees in society begins to psychotically and violently lash out against them."

[1994] Crumb

"Filmmaker Terry Zwigoff creates a complex but affectionate portrait of his longtime friend, underground cartoonist Robert Crumb. A notorious curmudgeon who would prefer to be alone with his fellow cartoonist wife Aline Kominsky-Crumb and his beloved vintage jazz records, Crumb reveals himself to be a complicated personality who suffered a troubled upbringing and harbors a philosophical opposition to the 1960s hippie underground that first celebrated his work."

[1995] Mallrats

"Two best friends seek the comforts of the mall when their girlfriends dump them on the same day. They end up engaging in disruptive activities and eventually decide to win their girlfriends back."

[1995] Welcome to the Dollhouse

"An awkward seventh-grader struggles to cope with inattentive parents, snobbish class-mates, a smart older brother, an attractive younger sister and her own insecurities in suburban New Jersey."

[1996] Trainspotting

"Because no one can really understand that urgency as well as another addict, there is a shared humor, desperation and understanding among users. There is even a relief: Lies and evasions are unnecessary among friends who share the same needs. “Trainspotting” knows that truth in its very bones. The movie has been attacked as pro-drug and defended as anti-drug, but actually it is simply pragmatic." -Roger Ebert July 26, 1996

[1997] Chasing Amy

"Cult comic-book artist Holden falls in love with fellow artist Alyssa, only to be thwarted by her sexuality, the disdain of his best friend Banky and his own misgivings about himself. Filled with Director Kevin Smith's unique ear for dialogue and insight into relationships, Chasing Amy offers a thoughtful, funny look at how perceptions alter lives, and how obsession and self-doubt skew reality."

[1998] Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas

[2000] Requiem for a Dream

"The drug-induced utopias of four Coney Island people are shattered when their addictions run deep."

[2001] All About Lily Chou-Chou

"For kids around the world, music is often the only salvation when the pain and anxiety of teenage life becomes too much to bear. Yuichi is in the 8th grade and he worships Lily Chou-Chou, a Bjork-like chanteuse whose epic music is lush and transcendent. Yuichi only lives for Lily Chou-Chou's big Tokyo concert, where the lies and violence can be washed away by the presence of his goddess and her powerful music. But fate has yet another obstacle in store for Lily's devoted fan."

[2001] Donnie Darko (2004 Director's Cut)

[2001] Freddy Got Fingered

It was difficult to find a summary that does this film justice. "Green stars in the film as a childish slacker who wishes to become a professional cartoonist." It's mostly a framework for Tom Green to do what he does best.

[2001] Ghost World

"The story of neo-cool Enid and Rebecca who, faced with graduation from high school, take a hard look at the world they wryly observe and decide what they really want. When Enid takes an interest in the offbeat Seymour and Rebecca focuses her attention on their mutual romantic fixation Josh, the girls' friendship is forever changed."

God I wish that were me. "A rebellious young boy joins a group of skinheads and gives his life new direction, until he meets a man named Combo, a former member of the crew and ex-convict, who starts his own clan."

"Extremely shy Lars finds it impossible to make friends or socialize. His brother and sister-in-law worry about him, so when he announces that he has a girlfriend he met on the Internet, they are overjoyed. But Lars' new lady is a life-size plastic woman. On the advice of a doctor, his family and the rest of the community go along with his delusion."

[2008] Role Models
